Melton S. Mustafa is an internationally known trumpet player, arranger/composer, producer, and educator. Melton has performed with some of the top musicians in the world including the Count Basie Orchestra, Duke Ellington Orchestra, Woody Herman Orchestra, Bobby Watson, Jaco Pastorius, George Cables, John Hicks, Charlie Mingus Dynasty, and Gunter Shuller, among many others. Mustafa has played in many of the international Jazz Festival which include the Playboy Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Ravina Jazz Festival, SS Norway Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Lugano Jazz Festival (Italy), Pori Jazz Festival, Charlie Mingus Epitaph Orchestra in Russia and many others. Mustafa has released three CD's as a big band and small band leader entitled "Boiling Point" Melton Mustafa Orchestra, "St. Louis Blues" Melton Mustafa Orchestra and “The Softer Side” Scenes from Miami Vol 1. As a traveling artist, Mustafa manages to conduct his duties as an educator, Mustafa is currently the Director of Jazz Studies at Florida Memorial University where he teaches and also produces his Annual Melton Mustafa Jazz Festival at Florida Memorial University. Some of the guest artists that appeared at the Festival from (1996-2009) were, Jon Faddis, Abraham Laboriel, Benny Golson, Dr. Nathan Davis, Dr. Grover Washington Jr., Dr. James Moody, Idris Muhammad, George Cables, Wallace Roney, Patrice Rushen, Geri Allen, Jimmy Owens, Billy Cobham, Herbie Mann, Dr. Billy Taylor, Clarke Terry, Curtis Fuller, Nestor Torres, Winard Harper, Najee, Randy Brecker, and others. This Festival has a workshop component that deals with coordinating many high school jazz bands from both Dade and Broward County in a competitive and educational learning experience that culminates with a concert This same learning experience for students is taken to other cities and colleges such as, Northern Illinois University, Florida Atlantic University, University of Miami, University of Wisconsin, Miami-Dade Community College, Dade County Public School Jazz Program, St Louis Missouri School Jazz program (Charmanade).
